Run-N-Ride Relays
D Line Extension Run
March 8, 2026
With the first phase of Metro’s D Line extension set to open on Friday, May 8th, we’re keeping the momentum going with another Run-N-Ride event!
We’ll be running the length of the line from Union Station to Wilshire / La Cienega. For those of you who want to join but feel that 9+ miles is too much, feel free to wait at one of the three checkpoints or reach out to coordinate another spot along the route.
Checkpoints (unofficial):
Marie's Coffee & Deli (- 2 miles) 7th Street / Metro
Metro Fresh (- 4.5 miles) Wilshire / Vermont
Document Coffee Bar (- 5.5 miles) Wilshire / Western
Return Commute to Union: 720 Metro Bus Rapid Line to Wilshire/Western D Line
The run will conclude at Wilshire / La Cienega. From conversations with Metro, there is a strong possibility that while the D Line will be open to VIPs, it won't be open to the public until later in the afternoon. I am working to coordinate an alternative activity for participants, but the commute back to the rail will likely involve a short connecting bus ride or an additional 4-mile run/cycle back (finish off that half!). You can also take the 720 the other direction to Santa Monica or go straight home from the end of the run for those who don't have to return to Union.
Pilot Relay
FEBRUARY 21, 2026
Run-N-Ride Relays builds on Los Angeles’ culture of movement and connection. The route of the pilot relay follows the Metro B Line, spanning 18 miles from North Hollywood Station to Union Station. The course is divided into six legs, with runners handing off a baton at Metro stations along the way. By leveraging Metro as the support system, the relay demonstrates in real-time how the region’s expanding transit network connects communities while reducing the need for heavy reliance on personal vehicles.
In partnering with the Global Youth Coalition and the Green Sports Alliance Foundation to develop the Run-N-Ride Relays, Wagul continues implementing our mission by pushing for the advancement of Metro’s “Transit First” mission at a moment when the world’s eyes will be on Los Angeles. The relay highlights Metro’s accessibility, reliability, and environmental value while directly addressing the city’s reputation for traffic congestion. Reduced vehicle use translates into lower emissions and greater equity in mobility.
This event marks the beginning of a larger vision. Run-N-Ride Relays is designed to expand into a series that highlights venue-to-venue transport, paving the way for major events like LA28. The result is a scalable, repeatable model of sustainable events that celebrate both community and green infrastructure. While piloting in Los Angeles, expansion to other cities is expected.
Join the Movement!
After hearing that so many more of you want to get involved, we partnered with the Action Mapping Project to make that happen!
Gather your friends and family, organize a work walk with colleagues, or take a solo stroll to explore what lies between the B Line stations, then give your feedback. Do you take public transit? Why or why not? What are the barriers to using it more often? What creative methods can Metro use to attract more riders? Now is your time to share! You can run, walk, cycle, rollerblade, or any other mode of sustainable transport, and bring as many people as you'd like.
This relay is a pilot, and in order for us to create more events, we would love your help. While we already have ideas for how to refine future relays, the data you provide through the Action Map will not only allow us to improve the next event, but it will also give us key insight to present to Metro.
We can't wait for you to join in, and please reach out with any questions!
Post your groups and share your maps on Instagram with the hashtags #TheMovementMovement and #RunNRideRelays, and tag us @runnriderelays!
